No, I Don't Always Believe These Lines

OK, when I said Alberto Gonzales didn't do anything wrong and was the poor victim of critics just piling on him... yeah, I admit it, I was talking out of my fart-hole. That was one of the lyingest motherfuckers to ever stink up Washington, D.C. -- heads and shoulders above the many, many stinking liars in Washington.

But see here, I can't just go around calling all them spades a spade. You get your palm greased enough, you have to give a hand-job or two now and then. That's politics.

Just ask Larry.

Someone Please Tell Cheney to Shut Up

Cheney needs to take a page from Karl Rove: keep your mouth shut and run the country from a back room somewhere.

Seriously -- I agree that we needed to get Libby out of prison and off the hook. Breaking the law in the service of the president is the highest of responsibilities and must be rewarded with complete immunity from the law that the president swears to faithfully execute.

But Cheney just doesn't need to be doing radio interviews about Libby, Al Gonzales, and the others who lie, cheat, steal, and break the law for the White House. It just doesn't help us keep the White House in the party.

I'm Not Looking Forward to What's Coming Down the Road

This isn't promising: you get Harriet Miers refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena and the Department of Justice declaring that it will not pursue any contempt charges because Harriet Miers was supposed to refuse to comply with the subpoena. And now you get evidence that the head of the Department of Justice -- Alberto Gonzales -- may have sort of lied to Congress.

Why does this turn of events trouble me so? Because it's just too much of a reminder of the last time an arrogant administration claimed it was above the law. And I don't think I want Watergate on folks' minds too much in the days to come.

Alberto Gonzales Is Ballsy

Wow, that guy is cutthroat. Goes in to see a possibly dying man and pressure him to make a political decision right then and there in intensive care -- and then deny that's what he was doing.

We should find a place for him in the next administration. Has to be appointed, though. But that's the kind of take-no-prisoners, who-cares-about-the-rule-of-law mentality that any dictator president needs.
